Speed Painting the Four-leaf Clover on iPad | Create Glowing Effects with Procreate

Painting a clover in gold on the Apple iPad with Procreate.

Happy Easter! Here we are in mid-April with another art video.

Today we're debuting the Golden Four-leaf Clover digital painting completed on the iPad with Procreate! This one was a very different project for me but still very enjoyable.

The picture above is the finished rendition. I was after this glowing effect from the start, but there were some things that held me back in the beginning.

First Rendition

In this beginning phase, you can see how I added the shadow, giving some illusion that the light was coming from the clover itself. For a while, I tried to emulate this painterly effect on the clover, as if it really were a glowing watercolor. But it was hard to mimic the effect of watercolor and glowing light at the same time.

Second Rendition

I scratched the first layer and started over again. Still trying to find the effect I was going for while working with new brushes in Procreate. I love how some lines felt like paints or watercolor, but it all was still lacking for me. So I started over again.

Third Rendition

Throwing out the second rendition, I started all over again, but this time was different. I added in the light first. To really trick my mind into believing the clover was glowing, I added some lighting effects from Procreate's preset brushes. This did the trick. I started to believe it and found the proper brushes to make the clover even shinier than before.

What do you think? Is it believable? Let me know!
